# API Keys

Generate and manage API keys for secure programmatic access to your Kenekt data.

## What Are API Keys?

API keys are unique credentials that allow external applications to:

* Read property and package data
* Create and update deals
* Access contact information
* Trigger webhooks

## Generating an API Key

1. Navigate to **Agency Settings** → **Integrations** → **API**
2. Click **Generate New Key**
3. Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Website Integration", "CRM Sync")
4. Select the permissions for this key
5. Click **Create**
6. **Copy the key immediately**: it won't be shown again

## API Key Permissions

When creating a key, choose what it can access:

| Permission | Description |
| - | - |
| **Read Properties** | View packages and listings |
| **Write Properties** | Create and update packages |
| **Read Deals** | View deal information |
| **Write Deals** | Create and update deals |
| **Read Contacts** | View contact information |
| **Write Contacts** | Create and update contacts |

## Managing Keys

### Viewing Active Keys

1. Go to **Agency Settings** → **Integrations** → **API**
2. See all active keys with their names and creation dates
3. Permissions are displayed for each key

### Revoking a Key

1. Find the key in the list
2. Click **Revoke** or the delete icon
3. Confirm the action

**Warning:** Revoking a key immediately stops all applications using it.

## Security Best Practices

* **Never share keys publicly**: Treat them like passwords
* **Use descriptive names**: Know what each key is used for
* **Minimum permissions**: Only grant what's needed
* **Rotate regularly**: Replace keys periodically
* **Revoke unused keys**: Remove keys no longer in use

## Tips

* Create separate keys for each integration
* Test with read-only keys first
* Monitor API usage for unusual activity
* Document which systems use which keys
